Make Your Own Homemade Bubbles
My boys love blowing bubbles. Here is an easy recipe to make an instant and inexpensive homemade bubble solution. Combine:
- 3/4 cup dish soap (Dawn Ultra and Joy Ultra work best)
- 6 cups water
You can use a variety of household items to blow the bubbles through. Try plastic cookie cutters, slotted spoons or a flyswatter.

The Lilaguide

The Lilaguide is an excellent source if you are traveling with a baby. The guide is “based on thousands of surveys with local parents in each metropolitan area, the lilaguide is the insider’s guide to baby-friendly stores, activities, products and places to go”. They have guides for 23 metropolitan cities and a baby gear guide. This would have been a great book to have when we went to Chicago last month for a family vacation.
Has anyone used this guide and what did you think?

Found: Cool and Unusual Things For Kids
Via DaddyTypes, I found a link to some cool kids stuff from Sparkability. Perhaps I lead a sheltered life in the middle of nowhere, but I’ve not seen stuff like this anywhere else.

Visit Your Local Library
Our children’s love of reading is already a given. They are happiest when snuggled in our laps reading a good book.
Last week, the boys and I went to our local library to get a library card (finally) and check out some books. Caleb and Camden loved looking for new books to read, playing with the puzzles and going in the reading nook. We checked out several books for both boys and came home to start reading. Our library has story time, family story time and a summer reading program available. Besides books, they have movies to check out, computers for the kids to use and much more.
Check out Rookie Moms article on libraries.

Flag Cake

- 2 pt. strawberries (or raspberries)
- 1 pkg. (12 oz.) frozen pound cake, thawed, cut into 14 slices
- 1-1/3 cups blueberries, divided
- 1 tub (12 oz.) cool whip, thawed
Slice 1 cup of the strawberries; set aside. Halve remaining strawberries; set aside. Line bottom of 13×9-inch baking dish with cake slices. Top with sliced strawberries and 1 cup of the blueberries. Spread whipped topping evenly over berries. Place strawberry halves and remaining 1/3 cup blueberries on whipped topping to create a flag design. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
