Summer Fun List 2010

Our family had such a great time with our summer fun list last year that we are going to try it again. Here are the activities we are wanting to do this summer.

Advent Calendar

IMG_8445

I have been wanting to incorporate Advent into our family for a couple of years, but have never made it happen.

This year I was motivated by this muffin tin advent calendar that Meredith made.  Lack of time had me creating something a little more simple for this year.  Hopefully next year I can start sooner and create something that will last from year to year.

I made a simple envelope from scrapbook paper and free-handed a tree and stars to glue on. My husband and I then decided on 24 things to do over the course of the month.  There are a few days that are very busy for our family, so those days we will have a verse to read instead of an activity.  The kids were watching me put the calendar together this weekend and are anxious to start.

We are also reading Looking Forward to the Nativity as a family each night.

Summer Fun List 2009

I saw the idea for making a summer fun list at Mom Advice and decided to make a list with my kids.  The boys had fun telling me all the things they would like to do this summer. I just hope we can complete everything on the list.

In This Home…

A couple of weeks ago, our ladies group from church went to paint pottery at Artful Designs.  I found a quote online over a year ago and was holding onto it for just the right time.  This is what I created.

In this home…

We do second chances.

We do grace.

We do real.

We do mistakes.

We do “I’m sorry”.

We do loud…really well.

We do hugs.

We do family.

We do love.

Finger Painting Fun

Caleb and Camden had fun this week doing a finger painting project.  The kitchen table was a mess afterwards, but their enjoyment was worth it.

This is before Caleb painted both sides of his hands with black paint.

I do enjoy doing crafts with my kids, although finger painting will now be for school only. It is just too messy for me.

Rainbow Crayons

The boys had three days off of school last week because of snow and excessive cold. They were going a little stir crazy, so we had a craft morning on Thursday. I had seen this idea to make rainbow crayons out of old crayons.

I went through the bag of crayons and pulled out all of the broken ones. After pulling off the wrapping, I put them on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil. I baked them at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes and then let them cool until they were soft.

This is where the boys got to have fun. I have some little cookie cutters that they used to cut fun shapes.

They didn’t turn out as thick as I would like, but the boys had fun and it kept them busy for the morning.

Macaroni Art

I took the boys to the library earlier in the week for a craft project.  They created pictures with colored pasta.  They had so much fun we are going to attend one at the end of the month along with a Halloween story hour.
