Strawberry Jam
This week, the boys and I decided to make some strawberry freezer jam.

The boys helped me crush up the strawberries and mix the jam.

And, the next day we tried the jam on biscuits.

YUM!

Homemade Baby Purees
One of the things I have done for all of my children is to make their first baby food purees. I decided that is was time to start making some for my daughter, so I have spent the last week making her first purees and getting them stashed in the freezer. She is only taking oatmeal right now and we are in the process of determining if she is even ready for solids yet. But, I do have plenty of purees to start with when the time is right.
I always thought it would be time consuming to make purees, but it doesn’t take that much of my time and I enjoy making it for them.
So far, I have made sweet potato, carrot and squash puree. My parents have some fruit trees on their property and have always made our children their apple, pear and peach purees. These have been in my basement since the fall and I just need to get the fruit into ice cube trays and frozen.

Some books for reference that I have used are First Meals and Super Baby Food. Also, check out Stephanie at Keeper of the Home. She is doing a series on raising healthy eaters and has a lot of helpful information.

My Favorite Children’s Cookbooks
I love cookbooks. I have quite an extensive selection of them. Since becoming a stay at home mom, I cook a lot more, so I use them quite a bit. Also, my 3 year old loves to help me in the kitchen, so I like to have recipes that are kid friendly. Here are some of my favorite cookbooks for children:
- First Meals – Annabel Karmel (I like all of her cookbooks)
- Cooking For Kids
- Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys & Girls
- Williams-Sonoma The Kid’s Cookbook
- The Little House Cookbook
- The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook
- Disney’s Family Cookbook
- Family Fun Fast Family Dinners
- Family Fun Super Snacks
- The Pampered Chef Let’s Eat
- The Lucky Cookbook for Boys and Girls (this was my first cookbook as a little girl)
I love to pick up new cookbooks whenever I find one that appears interesting. Does anyone have a favorite cookbook for their children?
